More about Ty

Ty Raso is a poet, teacher, and editor whose work has appeared in POETRY, The Offing, The Adroit Journal, Electric Literature, The Rumpus, Foglifter Journal, and elsewhere. She's received scholarships from the Community of Writers, and the Sundress Academy for the Arts, as well as support from the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop,  and the Tin House summer workshop. Her debut full-length collection, MIRROR WOULD BE A BEAUTIFUL NAME FOR A CHILD will be published by Noemi Press in 2027, and was previously a finalist for the Alice James Award and the Nightboat Poetry Prize. She's a two-time finalist for the Jay C. and Ruth Halls Poetry Fellowship at UW-Madison's Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, a two-time fellow at the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, a 2025 Djanikian Scholar with the Adroit Journal, and a 2026 Get The Word Out Fellow with Poets&Writers. She's taught at Indiana University, where she was awarded the Earle J.S Ho Award for the Teaching of Creative Writing, Fordham University, Northwestern University's Center for Talent Development Program, and has been a yearly mentor for SUNHOUSE Literary's summer mentorship program for young writers. She's read on the staff of multiple literary magazines (like the Kenyon Review and Muzzle Magazine), and was previously the Indiana Review's Nonfiction Editor. She is especially interested in genre-bending or genre-bursting writing, voice-driven poetry, and work that clashes heartbreak and humor. She is an Aquarius sun, Cancer moon, Scorpio rising, and her mercury is in Capricorn. Her favorite nut is pistachio and her favorite berry is straw.

What Ty offers

Full-length Manuscript Consultations ($200 - 300)
Includes: a 2-4 page feedback letter detailing narrative/thematic threads, noticeable craft patterns & revision reflections and/or prompts, structure analysis and suggestions, in-line notes on entire manuscript, generative suggestions for new work if appropriate, a 60-90 minute Zoom discussion (before or after feedback), and 3-5 press suggestions and/or general submission support if desired.

Chapbook Consultations ($100 - 200)
Includes same as above, specialized for a more compact project. Please limit chapbook submissions to 40 pages. Otherwise, I'd recommend booking a full-length consultation.

Beta Full-Length Manuscript Read ($75 - 125)
A more preliminary read of a full-length manuscript, which includes a 1-2 page feedback letter focused primarily on the larger thematic/narrative identity of the project, any broader noticeable craft patterns and light revision suggestions if appropriate, reflections on "gaps" or questions, structure analysis and suggestions. No in-line notes or meeting, but useful if you want eyes on the manuscript without the surgical focus.

Microchap or Packet Consultation ($50 - 100)
Flexible service! Are you trying to put together a writing sample for an application? a microchap? Do you just want feedback on approximately 10 pages of otherwise unrelated poems? We'll talk goals, needs, etc. and customize this service to you. Includes a short Zoom meeting in base price.

Individual Poem Consultation ($20 - 40)
For those particularly stumping pieces of writing. As in-depth as possible--line edits, approximately 1-2 page analysis letter on the poem. Think of it as deep tissue massage (but for a poem). Includes prompts for future revision, or potentially future writing beyond the poem. Does not include meeting in base price.

General Consultation ($25 - 50)
If you want to block off an hour to an hour and a half of time with me on Zoom to talk poems, applications, etc., this is the way to do it! Could fit any number of things, including but not limited to: rapid-fire spontaneous feedback, generative writing session, application consultations, project ideation, follow-up after another service, submission strategizing, or anything in between, beyond, or through the above.

Pay It Forward ($whatever you want!)
Ty would like to offer FREE and/or HEAVILY DISCOUNTED services to BIPOC writers, trans writers, and writers 21 or younger when she has the capacity to. If you have money to spare and would like to contribute to a running pay-it-forward fund, it would be greatly appreciated. <3
What people have to say

Ty gave feedback on my full-length poetry manuscript that helped me understand the project as a whole. She has an incredible skill for understanding structure and her feedback in those areas led me to rearrange the manuscript, which has now been a finalist for a prize. Additionally, they gave me notes on individual key poems in the collection that helped me understand both the poem, and how it was functioning in the manuscript. Her detail and care for my project was so helpful—I would recommend her to anyone looking for feedback on their manuscript!

Ty read through my manuscript with great care, providing me with a detailed feedback letter that not only pointed out the manuscript's strengths and weaknesses, but also highlighted craft patterns and tendencies in my writing style. She provided me with notes on individual poems, which made it really easy to understand how to edit my work further. Her editorial eye is keen and is focused on making my manuscript the best version that it can be. Her notes on ordering and structuring the manuscript were really useful. I would wholeheartedly recommend her services to anyone who wants to improve their manuscript and take it to the next level.
